TranslyxCAT is a fully web-based Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tool designed for professional translators. It combines Translation Memory, Neural Machine Translation, AI-powered Quality Assurance, and Glossary Management in a single modern platform, with no installation required.

It is part of the broader TRANSLYX suite, which also includes TranslyxTMS, a Translation Management System for agencies and teams managing multiple projects and clients.

TranslyxCAT was deliberately built as a web-only platform for several reasons:

• AI at its best: The AI capabilities powering TranslyxCAT, large language models, neural MT engines, and intelligent QA, require cloud infrastructure to run effectively. A desktop application simply cannot match this.
• No compatibility issues: Most legacy CAT tools are Windows-only, leaving macOS and Linux users with limited or no options. TranslyxCAT works on any device with a modern browser.
• Always up to date: You never need to download an update. Every improvement we ship is available to you instantly.
• Accessibility: In an era where reliable internet access is the norm rather than the exception, a browser-based tool is simply more practical and more accessible for professional translators worldwide.

No. TranslyxCAT runs entirely in your web browser. There is nothing to install, no licence files to manage, and no platform restrictions. It works on any modern browser, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge, on any operating system.

Import: DOCX, TXT, XLIFF (.xlf), PO, CSV, and TMX (for Translation Memory import).

Export: DOCX (formatted, translation only, or bilingual), TMX (for TM export to other tools).

Additional format support is on the roadmap, including XLSX and PPTX.

Yes. The Free plan is available forever with no credit card required. It includes:

• 50,000 MT characters per month
• 100 AI queries per month
• Translation Memory (unlimited entries)
• Glossary management (up to 100 terms)
• DOCX and TMX export

Translation Memory (TM) is a database that stores every segment you translate. When a new segment matches, exactly or partially, a previously translated one, the TM surfaces it as a suggestion, saving you time and ensuring consistency across projects.

TranslyxCAT supports fuzzy matching, meaning it will suggest translations even when the new segment is only partially similar to a stored one, ranked by relevance. You can also import existing TM databases from other tools via TMX format.

TranslyxCAT integrates three Neural Machine Translation providers:

• DeepL, recommended for European languages broadly, producing the most natural and register-appropriate output for professional translation work. It is our top recommendation for Portuguese (PT-PT) projects specifically.
• Google Translate, broad language coverage across 100+ languages.
• MyMemory, free-tier MT option with wide language support.

You can enable or disable providers per project and use Batch MT Pre-fill to populate all segments at once before beginning your review.

Both tiers include AI-powered assistance for translation suggestions, QA review, and terminology. The Premium tier uses a more capable AI model that delivers higher accuracy on complex, technical, and specialised content, particularly for legal, institutional, and formal documents.

We intentionally do not publish model names, this is an architectural decision that allows us to update the underlying AI as better models become available, without disrupting your workflow.

The 1990 Portuguese Orthographic Agreement (AO90) standardised spelling across Portuguese-speaking countries. However, Angola and Mozambique continue to use Pre-Reform orthographic norms in official, legal, and institutional documents, a distinction that is commercially and legally significant for translators working with Luso-African clients.

TranslyxCAT automatically converts Post-Reform spellings to Pre-Reform on export when the Pre-Reform option is enabled for a project. This ensures full compliance with the orthographic standards required in these markets without requiring manual correction of every affected term.

Yes. TranslyxCAT supports TMX import (Translation Memory eXchange), the industry-standard format used by virtually all CAT tools. Export your TM from your existing tool as a TMX file and import it directly into TranslyxCAT via the Translation Memory page.

Large TMX files (up to 10MB) are imported using batch processing to ensure reliability.

TranslyxCAT includes two types of QA review:

• Standalone QA: Run a quality check at any point during your project. The AI reviews all completed segments for consistency, untranslated content, terminology deviations, and style issues. Results appear in a dedicated panel with direct navigation to each flagged segment.
• Batch MT AI Review (Premium): After pre-filling segments with Neural MT, run a parallel AI review across all segments simultaneously. Issues are flagged as segment notes before you begin your review.

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time from your account settings. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.

MT pre-fill and real-time MT suggestions will be temporarily unavailable until your limit resets at the start of the next calendar month. You can continue translating manually and using Translation Memory suggestions. Your usage is always visible in the Usage section of the sidebar.

All paid plans include a 14-day free trial. No credit card is required to start. If you decide not to continue, your account simply reverts to the Free plan at the end of the trial period.

We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods. If you cancel a paid plan, you retain access until the end of the current billing period, after which your account reverts to the Free plan. Given the 14-day free trial available on all paid plans, we encourage you to evaluate the product thoroughly before subscribing.

Currently, each project is managed by a single translator. Multi-user collabouration, allowing team members to work on the same project simultaneously, is on the roadmap and will be available in a future release.

For agencies managing multiple translators, TranslyxTMS (coming soon) is designed specifically for team and project workflow management.

Currently, each project contains a single document. Multi-document projects, where several files share the same Translation Memory and Glossary within one project, are on the roadmap for a near-term release.

In the meantime, all projects sharing the same language pair automatically draw from the same Translation Memory, ensuring consistency across related documents.

You do. You retain full ownership of all documents, translations, and terminology data you create or upload in TranslyxCAT. We do not claim any rights over your content.

No. Your translation content is never used to train AI models. It is stored securely in your account and processed solely to provide the TranslyxCAT service to you.

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (PostgreSQL), hosted in the EU. All connections are encrypted via HTTPS. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.

Yes. TRANSLYX is operated by Omnivest Global Enterprises (PTY) Ltd, registered in South Africa, and we comply with both the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the South African Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Full details are available in our Privacy Policy.
